In this experiment, a lay artificial neural network was dissected to discover if it has learned the idea of a grandmother.
And it did!
The artificial neural network gained a few neurons, which are responsible for the processing of the grandmother concept. Approaches from neuroscience and computer vision helped to explore which traits of a grandmother the subject network grasped from all the millions of images it had previously seen.
